The MID was set up by the insurance industry to combat the number of uninsured vehicles on the road and help to keep premium costs down by reducing the number of compensation claims that arise from uninsured drivers being involved in accidents.
The MID also ensures that the UK complies with European legislation that requires insurance details of vehicles in member states be accessible through a centralised information centre, which, in the UK is carried out by the UK Information Centre.
The Police and DVLA frequently access the database, but other industry partners including (but not limited to) insurers, brokers and motor trade policyholders all have access and an obligation to maintain it correctly and in a timely manner.
Cars, Commercial Vehicles & Multi-Vehicles
We will ensure that every time you make a change to your policy that the MID is updated with your new vehicle details.
Fleet Insurance & Motor Trade Insurance
Depending on insurance company and the insurance policy we will make sure that when you add or remove vehicles that it is agreed who will make the changes. This can be done by you or us depending on what type of Fleet Insurance has been arranged.
The MID update process with be agreed with you prior to inception.
